Abstract

Recent studies continue to support the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of short-term psychodynamic therapies, including ISTDP. A 2023 study replicated ISTDP’s effectiveness for treatment-resistant depression, while pilot trials explored its potential for histrionic and antisocial personality disorders. Research also links therapist oxytocin levels to treatment outcomes. Large-scale studies confirm the societal cost-effectiveness of short-term therapies, while evidence suggests longer treatments yield greater benefits. An umbrella review further establishes psychodynamic therapy as an empirically-supported treatment across mental health conditions.
